The end of the current generation Nissan GT-R (commonly referred to by its R35 chassis code) could be upon us according to several new reports out of Japan.
New stories from Magazine X and Creative Trend suggest that the 2025 model year GT-R will be the last of the sports car in its current form, with its expiry date set to be announced on March 14.
“We have decided to discontinue production because there will be many parts that cannot be manufactured in the future,” Nissan told dealers in Japan, reports Magazine X.

What parts Nissan is referring to isn’t known at this point, but considering the current generation GT-R has been in production for 17 years, you can see where they’re coming from as it is getting a bit long in the tooth. Besides, isn’t it about time the long-rumoured next-generation model (R36) made its way out of the woodwork?
Nevertheless, the final model comes just a year after the GT-R underwent a significant facelift for vehicles sold in Japan and the United States, with redesigned bumpers found front and rear, along with a handful of suspension and weight-saving upgrades.
We don’t imagine too much will change regarding the 2025 model, but expect something along the lines of a final edition with special badging.
2023 Nissan Hyper Force concept
The last lot of R35s will supposedly be produced in limited numbers, 1500 to be exact, with 300 of those being Nismo variants.
As for what’s next, we think the Hyper Force concept that was revealed at the Japan Mobility Show might have something to do with the GT-R’s successor judging by its design. Don’t expect a screaming six-cylinder under the bonnet though as the next GT-R will likely be all-electric.
